Lancaster County, PA...
We are currently camped at the Sun Valley RV Resort in Narvon, Pennsylvania. More on the resort later. Lancaster County is beautiful rolling hills, heavily dotted with farms. This is Amish country and it is not unusual to pull up behind a horse and buggy. There are many narrow winding roads that would be challenging for a sports car, let alone a motor home. The leaves have turned and are starting to fall and there is a deep chill in the air at night. We're running a small electric heater most of the day.
Being rural farmland there are many roadside farm stands selling fresh produce and home-made foods and crafts. A must see out here is the Shady Maple complex. There is a grocery store with product like I have never seen before. Heads of cabbage that are 14 inches in diameter and huge yams. And I love wandering grocery stores looking for items that are popular in the local area like tea biscuits and blueberry breakfast sausage. After shopping, you can head next door to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord for dinner. This buffet-style eatery is huge! It can accommodate 1,200 guests in the restaurant section and about the same in the catering area. The food was excellent.
The Sun Valley RV Resort is part of the Encore Resorts group. It is very well kept. This is late in the season so the pool is closed, but the pavilion has laundry facilities and clean, modern showers with plenty of hot water. The staff has been very friendly and helpful. We have a back-in site halfway up a hill and surrounded by trees. It's not quite level, but close. I had to leave my tow dolly across the road in a tent site only because I couldn't pull it up hill by myself. There seem to be a lot of seasonal sites here, but since we are here during the weekdays, it is pretty empty and very quiet. We primarily chose this park because it was near a friend that we wanted to visit, but turned out to be a great choice.
We don't plan on doing any touristy stuff while we're here, just visiting with Terri and John. Next up, we leave Friday for Stone Mountain, Georgia with a couple of lot-docking overnights in between. Enjoying the good life.
